Cancer Research UK to Launch Campaign to Help Fight Cancer

Cancer Research UK to Launch Campaign to Help Fight CancerA new campaign is being planned by the Cancer Research UK to encourage the people across the country to fight cancer.

The charity claims that advancements in research have saved about thousands of lives.? It suggested that nearly 520,000 patients have benefitted from the improved research and treatments.

Further, it said that the number of people losing lives from cancer was increasing in 1980s.? At those times, more numbers of people were dying from tobacco related illness and screening for the condition was also not widespread.

Since then, there have been much advancement in treatments and there is also decrease in smoking rates.? Also, many national screening programmes have taken place which led to survival rate improvement among the patients.

Recent figures have shown that the deadly disease has claimed lives of about 85,000 men and 75,000 women in the UK in 2010.? Survival rate now has improved in wake of improved drugs for diseases like leukaemia, said Professor Michael Olson, a Scientist at the Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow.

"I know from experience that research kills cancer.? I am so grateful for the treatment I have received so far that I know has saved my life", said Janet Brodie, a cancer patient from Portobello, Edinburgh.
