I am working on a novel set in the mid-1780s in New Orleans. My strength is knowing the complicated history of the time and place, but I am weak in the mixed languages spoken at the time. I need a correct few sentences expressing that a young woman of color believes that she has seen the Devil.
I have someone who can help with the French, but am at a loss for the plantation creole.
I do not want to do large amounts of dialect, because my readers will have trouble following it, but would like to do a sentence here and there for flavor.

While Boston Dynamics' Cheetah has already premiered, speeding along on its robot-friendly treadmill, we've now got a better glimpse at how the similarly DARPA-funded human-hunting obstacle-scaling Atlas fares, courtesy of its ancestor. That's the Pet-Proto you can see in the video below, balancing and leaping across narrow terrain, conducting its own "autonomous decision-making" and keeping upright -- all very important points for DARPA's own Robotics Challenge, a competition where winners will gain access to their very own modified version of the Atlas for future disaster response tests. Watch the Pet-Proto gradually advance towards camera right after the break. And we'll sleep with one eye open.

Have you been planning to install new windows or doors? Well, not all are created equal. I attended a great event at Harvey Building Products at their Burlington, MA showroom (what? you have not been there?) ?It is a must see at 1 Wheeler Road- lots of good ideas for home improvement projects especially for doors and windows. But I did not realize they have a lot more products.? Options for decking, siding and roofing were just some of the products we saw on our tour.? Also on hand was Peter Hotton from The Boston Globe?s handyman on call to tell us some wonderful and funny home improvement stories.
All Harvey windows, doors and patio rooms (my dream project is a nice three season room!) are made locally in NH and they stand by their products. They are the only American manufacturer that designs and makes all its own window products. ?Check out their showroom and tell your contractor to as well! Homeowners can visit the showroom for ideas, suggestions and lots of advice, but Harvey sells exclusively to building industry professionals. Or check out their web site at Harveybp.com
This is my dream front door!

Sturgeon County Car Insurance There are more cars and drivers hitting the road every year. With countless cars on the road, accidents will happen. The difference between a minor aggravation and major pain can be automobile insurance. How can you decide what insurance you require and how to buy it? Required coverage varies by state/province but usually includes the following:Pays for damages due to bodily injury and property damage to others for which you are responsible. Bodily injury damages include medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. Property damage includes damaged property and loss of use of property. It also covers your defense and court costs if you are sued. State laws usually mandate minimum amounts, but higher amounts are available and usually recommended. Personal injury protection: This is required in some states and is optional in others. Sometimes referred to as no-fault coverage, this pays the medical treatment for you or your passengers regardless of who was at fault. It may also pay for lost earnings, replacement of services and funeral expenses. State law usually sets minimum amounts. Medical payments: This type of coverage is available in non-no-fault states and will pay no matter who is responsible for the accident. It pays for an insured person?s reasonable and necessary medical or funeral expenses for bodily injury from a crash. Collision: This pays for damage to your car caused by a collision. Comprehensive: This applies if your car is stolen or damaged by causes other than collision, including fire, wind, hail, flood or vandalism. Uninsured motorist: This pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have liability insurance or by a person who cannot be identified (usually a hit-and-run driver). Under- insured motorist: This pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have enough liability insurance to cover the full amount of the damages. Other coverage, such as emergency road service and car rental, is also available.Your auto insurance payments vary by company and will depend on several factors, including: * What coverage you select * The make and model of the car you drive * Your driving record * Your age, gender and marital status and * Where you live Many people think of auto insurance as a necessary evil, but it can save your financial well-being. Evaluate your needs, do your research and with the help of your insurance agent make the decision that best suits you. More On Vehicle Insurance

Charging data by a charging infrastructure company suggests that Volt owners are concerned about relying on their gas engine, Gordon-Bloomfield writes.
By Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield,?Guest blogger / October 19, 2012
In this January 2010 file photo, the Chevy Volt appears on display at the Washington Auto Show, in Washington. Electric cars tend to charge at home most of the time, with a single nightly charge providing more than enough range for daily driving duties, according to a new study.
J. Scott Applewhite/AP/File
EnlargeWhen General Motors launched the?Chevrolet?Volt plug-in hybrid back in 2010, it chose to emphasize how it differed from electric?cars?by highlighting how its gasoline engine meant folks didn?t suffer from range anxiety.

Now, almost two years after the Volt launched, charging data by a charging infrastructure company suggests that Volt owners have exactly the opposite problem: gas anxiety.
In short, Volt owners do everything they can to avoid using their car?s built-in gasoline-powered range extending engine.
And that means plugging in more often than all-electric cars, like the?2012 Nissan Leaf.
The data comes from electric car charging provider Ecotality, which has been tracking the charging habits of around 6,000 plug-in car drivers in the U.S. as part of a $230 million research project part funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.?
Known as the EVproject, Ecotality offered plug-in drivers a free home charging station, as well as access to its nationwide public charging network, in exchange for collecting anonymous data on charging patterns.?
The EVproject was set up to see the viability and demand of electric?vehicle?charging, but its findings so far confirm what many electric car advocates predicted would happen.?
First, the EVProject?s data shows that those with electric cars like the 2012 Nissan Leaf tend to charge at home most of the time, with a single nightly charge providing more than enough range for daily driving duties.?
?If you have a home charging station, you don?t really need to rely too much on commercial infrastructure,? Colin read, Ecotality?s vice president for corporate development?told The New York Times.?
?Home charging meets a lot of our needs,? he continued, pointing out that 89 percent of all?Nissan Leaf?charging takes place at home.?
Second, plug-in hybrids, like the?2013 Chevrolet Volt, tend to spend more time charging their cars than their all-electric counterparts.
Moreover, those with Chevrolet Volts are 11 percent more likely to charge away from home than Leaf owners.?
With gas prices reaching unexpectedly high levels in parts of the U.S., it is logical to expect plug-inhybrid?owners to prefer using electricity over gasoline wherever possible.?
Although the?data corroborates what GM, and Volt?owners--already knew about the Volt--that it was primarily an electric car--Read, and Ecotality, were surprised by the data.?
?We never anticipated that a 40-mile[sic]-electric-range plug-in hybrid would charge more than a 100 percent electric car,? he said. ?You have that gas engine that you?re paying an extra premium for a reason.?
We?re not surprised to learn that Volts charge more often than Leafs, but are you??
Do you own a Volt? And how would you describe your charging habits??

In this article I?m going to take a few minutes of my time to ensure that you can understand all of the specific details about plastic surgical treatment that you possibly have never even known about so far. You will find all different types of things that people just don?t understand regarding plastic surgery, and I am going to fill you in on a few of these details now so that you can truly get a good grasp of all things that is going on in this specified area. Therefore let us have a much closer peek at plastic surgery at this moment and explore these particulars.
The first thing that you should understand that lots of people turn out having plastic surgery for the reason that they go through various distressing injuries, and it has nothing to undertake exclusively with total pride. If someone goes through a bad car crash or a severe burn, they are definitely going to need plastic surgery in many cases in order to properly cure correctly so that there are not any ugly marks and burns covering up large portions of their skin. This is specifically true if the portion of their face has been damaged negatively because of an accident or burn.
One more thing you need to totally recognize is that plastic surgery is also here because it can help numerous medical conditions that we don?t want to live with. Say you happen to have melanoma, and it?s beginning to spread throughout your body in larger and larger parts. A cosmetic surgeon will be able to remove the melanoma from you and stop it from progressing any more. This is clearly essential and something you definitely want to have done if you are struggling with this particular problem, therefore realize the medical benefits of cosmetic surgery as well because a cosmetic surgeon just might be in a position to maintain your life.
Another thing you might not have ever even considered is that if you?ve a deviated septum, it can definitely end up interfering with your sleep patterns a lot. However, if you go through rhinoplasty, then you?ll not need to concern yourself with losing sleep all the time because the surgical treatment will correct that issue for you immediately. I guess you never possibly observed that Botox is also capable of assisting people who are struggling with migraines. This isn?t something that you often notice about for the reason that Botox injections are usually just linked to the vanity procedure. However the migraine pain victims undoubtedly appreciate Botox for the fact that it can stop those unpleasant headaches from actually ruining their lives.
The section of plastic surgery that I?m going to discuss after that is often overlooked also. There are a lot of individuals on this planet who end up dropping massive amounts of weight, and due to it their skin is very wobbly and out of shape that they have no choice but to get cosmetic surgery as a way to tighten it back again in order to appear and feel normal. These overweight people, or certainly formerly overweight people, have managed this undesirable condition for such a long time that I believe it?s a really good thing that they have cosmetic surgery available to them in order to appear as best as they can once again. They truly deserve to have this type of cosmetic surgery because it could help them like not anything else, and that is undoubtedly a good thing that will definitely support them appear good once again.
Talking over feeling good about ourselves, another thing that cosmetic surgery is very good at is helping people boost their self-esteem. I know you might not prefer having plastic surgery as a way to enhance self-esteem, but it?s more efficient if a person feels really negative about themselves because that they feel a particular disfigurement is holding them back in their life. There is nothing incorrect with feeling as good as possible about yourself and who you?re, and if plastic surgery will enable you to feel that way then I must say that you should definitely go for it because it makes a lot of sense in that case. So do not be reluctant to get cosmetic surgery if you?re going to take away the problem that?s going to help make your life a whole lot better the moment it?s gone.
These are a few of the major particulars that you really need to know about cosmetic surgery just before ever going through any kind of surgery yourself. Once you know and comprehend this specified type of plastic surgery, then you know that it?s definitely good to go under the knife if it is going to provide some sort of alleviation and make you feel significantly better about yourself and your entire situation.

VILNIUS (Reuters) - Lithuania's opposition prepared to take power on Monday after voters rejected a government that won widespread praise abroad for steering its citizens through the financial crisis with heavy budget cuts.
An ex-Soviet state of about three million people, Lithuania crashed hard when the crisis hit four years ago.
It slashed spending in response and, after a brutal recession, is now returning to economic health - but too late for voters who have seen their spending power eroded and unemployment soar.
The centre-left coalition now likely to take over promised during campaigning for Sunday's parliamentary election that it would ease the pain by raising the minimum wage, shifting the tax burden towards the better off and postponing adoption of the euro.
One coalition leader told Reuters the budget deficit might, at a later date, be allowed to go above the level that euro zone policymakers view as prudent.
But the new government will have to walk a tightrope.
Lithuania is still heavily indebted, and if debt markets - which welcomed its predecessor's austerity drive - do not trust the plans to ease the belt-tightening, the cost of borrowing could go up so high the country plummets into another crisis.
Debt markets showed no immediate reaction on Monday.
VOTERS, NOT IMF, HOLD CARDS
With most votes counted early on Monday, it was clear the government of Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius had lost - having won praise from big European powers and the International Monetary Fund for its thrift.
"If the IMF was voting then he (the prime minister) would be re-elected," said Kestutis Girnius, who teaches at the Institute for International Relations and Political Science in Vilnius.
"But the IMF does not live in Lithuania, and they could not live on a Lithuanian salary."
As one of the EU states hit hardest by the crisis, Lithuania was also an early convert to the austerity measures that have become the standard policy response to the debt turmoil that has spread across the region.
Before the crash of 2008, Lithuania was booming. Scandinavian banks provided cheap credit which let the country buy more than it sold and overheated the real estate market.
When the crisis struck, the banks stopped lending. Economic output dropped by 15 percent in 2009, unemployment shot up and thousands of young Lithuanians went abroad to seek work.
The government cut pensions and public sector wages. To save money, only every third street lamp in Vilnius was lit, and fuel for police cars was rationed.
This discipline helped the economy rebound. Gross domestic product grew 5.8 percent last year, one of the fastest rates of any EU economy. The budget deficit has been tamed. Yet most Lithuanians feel worse off than they did four years ago.
"What kind of crisis management are we talking about?" asked Alfonsus Spudys, 78, after he voted on Sunday in the capital, Vilnius. "They scythed people down ... and now they are saying they handled the crisis really well."
With votes counted from about three-quarters of Lithuania's districts, the opposition Labour Party had 21 percent, followed by its likely coalition partner the Social Democrats, with 19 percent.
The prime minister's Homeland Union had 13 percent.
The final outcome will not be clear until a second round in two weeks to settle local races where there was no outright winner, though that is unlikely to change the overall picture.
Algirdas Butkevicius, the former finance minister who leads the Social Democrats and is in the running to be new prime minister, reassured markets that any softening of austerity would be cautious and gradual.
"Our position is not be spending lavishly with borrowed money," he told a news conference on Monday. "First you have to earn money to get higher revenues for budgets."
Labour Party leader Viktor Uspaskich, a Russian-born businessman, said the coalition would stick for now to a deficit under three percent of gross domestic product, but that this could be exceeded later.
Lithuania needs to maintain their confidence, not least because it has to repay a 1 billion euro Eurobond in March.
In a non-binding referendum held alongside Sunday's election, about 60 percent of voters rejected a plan to build a 6.8 billion euro nuclear power station, incomplete results showed. U.S.-Japanese joint venture Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy was lined up to build the plant.

This afternoon, I?ll make a presentation to a group of patent lawyers in Stockholm, with the title ?What does the Pirate Party want with Patents, Trademarks, and Copyright??. Here?s a rough summary of what I?m about to tell them, including a few links that will probably get mentioned.
Patents should be abolished as soon as possible. An increasing amount of research, predominantly in the United States, shows us that the patent system as a whole has a negative effect on society. It can be positive for specific actors (mostly pharma companies and patent trolls), but for society as a whole, the patent system is damaging to innovation, to competition, and to economic growth.
The study The Case Against Patents (25 pages) by Michele Boldrin and David Levine at Washington University in St Louis is a good read on our view of the patent system (summary here).
When it comes to pharmaceutical patents, we agree that it?s not feasible to abolish the patent system and hope that the market makes sure enough research just happens anyway. Therefore, we?d like to replace pharmaceutical patents with the system known internationally as delinkage. It means that pharmaceutical research is financed directly from the public coffers, with research results made freely available for anyone to use in any way, spurring a free competition between manufacturers of generic (non-patent-encumbered) drugs. This system would save at least half of the taxpayers? bill for pharmaceuticals, while at the same time channeling more money to research. As a positive side-effect, besides the savings, it would also save hundreds of thousands ? or millions ? of lives in the third world.
When it comes to patents in all other areas, we?re willing to listen to anybody and everybody who believes they can show that the patent system provides any kind of net positive effect to society in additional areas, but so far, nobody has been able to show such a net positive (with the exception of pharma). In every such case, the burden of proof is on those who argue for an introduction or continuation of these governmentally-sanctioned monopolies, and not on us who argue for their abolition.
Trademarks are basically good, as they primarily serve as consumer protection. If it says ?Coca-Cola? on the can, I know that The Coca-Cola Company guarantees its quality. If I am dissatisfied with the product, I know where I can go to complain, but if I like it, I also know where I can go to get more. This also gives the trademark system a long-term effect of rewarding good and honest companies. While this is a positive effect, the protection of consumers is the foundation and the most important.
In some countries, like France and Italy, the trademark rights have grown to also include punishments for consumers who buy counterfeit goods (either because they want to, or because they were fooled to). This is a bad development that we?re firmly against. The legitimacy of the trademark system comes from protecting consumers. Should it be distorted into legislation that punishes consumers, like patents and copyrights do, it would lose its legitimacy.
Compared to patents and copyrights, it seems that the trademark business has kept their house cleaner against degenerate subversion, and the trademark practices haven?t fallen for the same unhealthy expansion as the patent and copyright laws have. There have been a few upsetting cases of abuse or attempted abuse, like when Louis Vuitton tried to censor a Danish artist ?to protect its brand? (it?s likely they haven?t done anything more damaging to the brand in modern years), or when a guitar maker who got the phrase ?Born to Rock? registered as a trademark for guitars starts suing T-shirt vendors to ban them from printing the phrase at all, despite clearly not being used as a trademark in the latter case.
This type of abuse must be fought down, primarily by the industry itself, secondarily by the courts, and tertiarily by legislators if nothing else works. But the foundation of trademark law remains sound: forcing and rewarding honesty towards consumers.
Copyright must be reformed. We?d like to keep the copyright monopoly for commercial use (but with shorter, more sensible terms of protection). The bug problem is that copyright has expanded in the past 20 years, going from being something that only corporations needed to care about, into something that criminalizes the entire young generation (and more and more people who aren?t even particularly young anymore).
The Swedish Pirate Party wants to;
If we reform copyright law according to this proposal, it would solve 99% of the serious problems that today?s copyright causes, while at the same time, 99% of the business models that work today in the entertainment and cultural sectors would keep doing so if the companies would adapt ever so slightly to a new world.
It?s not just the Swedish Pirate Party that thinks copyright law should be reformed like this. Since one year back, it?s also the official position of the entire Green group in the European Parliament.
There?s more on this proposal for copyright reform in the book The Case For Copyright Reform, written by me and Rick Falkvinge, the founder of the Pirate Party. The book is available for a free download as an e-book, or available at-cost as a print-on-demand book, at copyrightreform.eu.

Taste
Yuuup, purple can = grape flavour. The taste is fairly generic with a sweet grape punch which builds over time to become a too overly sweet for me. Since this is a low calorie drink, the flavour profile is different and there is a bit of that tongue ticking carbonation at the start and a lot of sweetener throughout. Surprisingly the aftertaste does not have as intense of a sweetener taste as I expected.
Overall, this is a very generic tasting low calorie energy drink.
Energy
There are 160 mg of caffeine in the can, which is typical for a drink of this size. There isn't a strong initial kick due to the lack of sugar, but there is just enough to give you a bump in the first 10 minutes. It works especially well if you are waking up in a zombie-like state.
The real kick comes in the next 15-20 minutes and is very brutish. There is no build up to it, it just comes. And that's great if you need energy to do something physical, but I found it unrefined if you are trying to focus on reading.
The energy lasts for 3-4 hours and there isn't a noticeable crash at the end.
Scores:
Cost - unsure
Taste - 6.5/10
Energy - 8/10
Overall - 14.5/20...generic tasting, typical kick for a drink of this size

The U.S. risks falling behind on online product innovation because it isn?t gaining a critical mass of subscribers to superfast broadband services (of 25Mbps+). That?s the scenario being painted by the Broadband Stakeholder Group, an advisory group to the U.K. government, writing in a new report examining global demand for superfast broadband services.
In a section on services, the report notes that in order to develop a new generation of internet services that utilise superfast broadband speeds internet companies need a critical mass of subscribers in place before they can launch services ? in the same way that demand for first generation broadband prefigured the creation of successive waves of online companies
The problem facing the next wave of U.S. internet innovators is that uptake of superfast broadband is relatively low ? the BSG calculates it?s less than three percent of total U.S. households ? meaning it?s a long way from reaching the necessary critical mass of users. Why is demand so low??According to the report,?the incentive for U.S. broadband providers to compete on speed grounds ? and thereby drive demand for superfast services ? is being suppressed by a focus on selling bundled pay-TV services, rather than standalone superfast broadband.
The report notes
Despite widespread availability [in the U.S.] over the last few years, superfast broadband has not yet taken off.?This can likely be explained by two factors. The first is that both cable operators and copper?incumbents are focusing on selling their TV services first, with broadband part of the bundle?with that service. Although this has usually been the approach for cable TV providers in most?markets, in the US the focus on Pay-TV services by the copper incumbents above the?broadband service is unique.
The BSG notes that neither Verizon nor AT&T are heavily promoting superfast broadband services ? and suggests the commercial threat from?online video services such as Netflix is likely far more front of mind for the companies than ?the limited competition on broadband that is?restricted by the existence of the territorial duopolies?.??This has meant that operators have?not competed on broadband speed in the same way that they have in other markets,?particularly in Europe,? the report adds.
It continues
The US was the home to online service innovation for the first generation of broadband. A number of these companies have become global giants. Whether such innovation will occur in the US this time, for next generation broadband, is perhaps a more open question. We have already seen that the US has a very low number of subscribers on genuinely superfast services, even counting those cable subscribers that have been uplifted. With the relative lack of competition in the US market, there is less of an incentive to compete on broadband speeds
when the dominant product in the bundle is the Pay-TV service ? this applies as much to the cable operators as it does to the copper-line incumbents. If this is to continue for any period of time, then the US will not reach a critical mass of superfast subscribers, and so will not reach the type of addressable market size that encouraged the early broadband innovators to develop new services ? we have previously noted Google?s foray in to FTTH buildout in Kansas City as perhaps a sign that they do not perceive the US?s broadband to be developing as they would wish.
The report goes on to suggest that if the U.S. does not act to accelerate superfast broadband adoption there is a potential opportunity for Europe to leverage faster uptake of superfast broadband to become the playground for the next wave of web innovation.
?If an addressable market of superfast broadband users can be created in Europe then it may become the new test-bed for online service innovators,? the report adds ? although it also notes that just having the users is not in itself a guarantee of anything, pointing to?high levels of superfast broadband uptake in Asian markets that have nonetheless failed to result in the development of ?an innovative online service environment based on superfast broadband?.
?There remains an open question as to where the next wave of innovation?will come from,? the report adds.

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) ? The Palestinian president appears to be backing away from his longstanding demand for Israel to halt West Bank settlement construction before peace talks resume.
Mahmoud Abbas told European diplomats Tuesday that he will resume talks after the U.N. votes on a Palestinian request for "nonmember state" status. A vote is expected in November.
Abbas made no mention of a settlement freeze, and officials said Abbas believes a freeze would no longer be necessary if he receives U.N. recognition of a state that includes all of the West Bank.
Peace talks have been frozen for nearly four years, in large part because of Palestinian demand for a settlement freeze and Israel's refusal to accept it.
While U.N. recognition is largely symbolic, the Palestinians believe it will bolster them in future negotiations.

Samsung's Galaxy Note II is happily filling hands in Korea and the UK without so much as a release date announced stateside. We may now have one, thanks to the folks at TmoNews, who appear to have snagged an internal document which suggests the phablet will arrive at the Magenta carrier on October 24th. Coincidentally (or not), Samsung is holding an event the same day, marrying with our previous speculation that it'll be unveiling the various carrier editions of the 5.5-inch beast there. Our suspicions are flagged, however, at the mention that Need for Speed: Most Wanted will come pre-installed, a game that isn't slated for release until October 30th -- not that we haven't seen similar release partnerships from the Note crew before. Although we can't confirm the legitimacy of this leak, we can suggest you start building up that grip strength just in case.

You'll find quite a few challenges with SUVs, nevertheless, that need to be kept in thoughts though purchasing any new automobile in order to make certain which you can order the pretty very best SUV for you as well as your family.
Sports activities Utility Vehicle is usually acknowledged, as SUV is often a generic marketing term, which can be used for that vehicles much like the station wagon having said that built on light truck chassis. Commonly the SUV is outfitted with four-wheel drive for that off and on road and having a few pretension or the capability to become used as an off road motor vehicle.
As with obtaining any kind of car or truck, probably the most crucial step in shopping for a SUV is investigation. You must arrive in the car or truck lot ready, or the salespersons might be capable to sell you a thing you don't seriously have to have or want. Once you get your analysis finished before you decide to commence hunting at autos, you will be capable to find out what extras and alternatives you truly want. So, study consumer magazines, appear by means of message boards by recent drivers, ask friends and family. It truly is only once you have accomplished your investigation and also have a common strategy what you happen to be seeking for, you'll be able to get started seeking at vehicles.
This can be generally a function of dimension. Do you commute on a twisty mountain road, but you are not planning to carry a lot of passengers? You then need to likely be seeking at compact and midsize SUV's. The more compact SUV's are typically constructed on platforms extremely much like passenger vehicles, and their handling will reflect this. If you're primarily driving about town and within the freeway, and also you will need tons of hauling capability, then you definitely ought to only be thinking about the more substantial cars which include the Chevy Suburban or the Ford Excursion. Although these larger SUV's are constructed extra like pickup trucks, with all the dealing with to match, this is what gives them the hefty cargo and towing capacities.
Naturally, just before signing any deal to pay out for the SUV, make sure to take it to get a spin. When you program to take the SUV off-road, get the salesperson to take you someplace the place you are able to test this functionality. If you are shopping for the SUV to generate the bumpy trip down your cottage laneway, you are not gonna entirely experience what that drive will probably be like by taking a smooth and straight drive down the freeway.
